HMO Plans

Get the Benefits of an Advantage Plan with the Management of an HMO.

A Medicare Advantage HMO plan is a common type of Medicare Advantage (Part C) plans.

When you join a Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) plan, you opt to see doctors and facilities from a network list. You select a primary care physician (PCP) for your regular exams and check-ups, who organizes your care and may refer you to specialists as needed.

What Are HMO Plans?

A Medicare Advantage HMO is a Medicare Advantage plan AND a Health Maintenance Organization.

This option appeals to those who like convenience and predictability—which stems from picking doctors and medical providers from a certain list.

Note: If you seek care outside of this network, you will likely be responsible for the full cost of any services rendered.

What Do HMO Plans Cover?

Advantage HMO plans bundle your medical and prescription coverage into one convenient plan. You will pick from a network of doctors and health care providers. Most plans include these benefits:

  • Fitness program
  • Preventative Services
  • Over-the-Counter Items
  • Vision and/or Dental care
  • Prescription Drug Coverage
  • Costs or copays for hearing aids

Do I Need a Primary Care Doctor?

Unlike Medicare Advantage PPOs, HMOs always require participants to have a primary care physician. This doctor is responsible for managing your care and providing you with referrals to see specialists if necessary.
